Caithness and Sutherland
Caithness and Sutherland are the most northerly and sparsely populated regions in the Highlands; the main draw the great open spaces and miles of bracing coastline. The rugged wilderness makes for a dramatic journey to Dunnet Head – the most northerly point of mainland Britain – and over the Pentland Firth to Orkney. From the famous inland Flow Country (huge areas of peat bog) and craggy peaks of Ben Hope and Ben Loyal, the vast unspoilt vista is steeped in heritage from the time of the Highland Clearances and is home to a host of archaeological and historic attractions including the Grey Cairns of Camster and castles such as Dunrobin and Carbisdale
