Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who are Highlands Best B&Bs and what makes them the best?
Answer: Highlands Best Bed & Breakfast group are all b&b proprietors from around the Highlands, invited into the group because of the exceptional quality and customer care that they provide. All actively encourage and act on customer feedback. Star gradings and quality are important but we know that our visitors value above all else is cleanliness, good service and a quality experience. This is what we offer that is what makes us the best!
2. Do I need to book in advance and how long in advance should I book?
Answer: B&Bs are usually willing to accept guests at very short notice, it was traditional before the internet, BUT as our member businesses are " the best", they are also the busiest, and are often booked up well in advance especially at holiday times. So our advice is to book in advance as soon as you are sure of your dates that way you will get the B&B you want and not end up at the last minute, disappointed.
3. What time can I expect to be able to check in to my B&B and what time will I have to check out?
Answer: This will vary slightly between B&Bs but generally you can expect to be able to check in any time after 4pm and be expected to depart by 10am. Always ask if you want to check in or out at odd times it is usually possible to accommodate you, (there is sometimes extra charge for late checkout).
4. What does ‘ensuite’ mean?
Answer: En suite means that your room will have bath/shower and toilet facilities all within the bedroom
5. What can I expect to be offered for breakfast?
Answer: All B&Bs will offer continental and/or cooked breakfast options. Check before you book to be sure as each establishment has its own various options. Always tell the B&B at the time of booking if you have any special requirements.
6. Do B&Bs offer an evening meal?
Answer: Some B&Bs do offer this option and this should be clear on their website. Most though will require advance notice that you wish a meal and again, this should be clear on their website
7. Do B&Bs accept pets?
Answer: The majority of B&Bs will not accept pets but there are a few who do. Check before you book!
8. Will I have to share a table with other guests at breakfast?
Answer: For some people this is why they stay at B&Bs. It’s the opportunity to talk and share holiday experiences with other like minded people. Others though will prefer privacy. Larger B&Bs will generally have ‘tables for two’ but not all. Again, check when you book if it is important to you.
9. What happens if I have to cancel my B&B reservation?
Answer: All B&Bs have their own cancellation terms and conditions – ensure that you read these at time of booking. In most B&Bs though the deposit will be non-refundable and how much you are asked to pay, over and above the deposit, if you cancel, will be dependent on how close it is to your arrival date. If you think you may have to cancel ensure that you have sufficient travel insurance cover.
10. How disabled friendly can I expect a B&B to be?
Answer: B&Bs are not covered by disabled legislation requirements. However, some B&Bs are more able than others to accommodate those with disabilities eg some will have rooms on the ground floor. Again, the advice is check before you book.
